Thursday, November 16: 51-1 Saves House in
East Bradford Township
On Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 15:02 hours,
First West Chester Fire Company, Station 51, was
dispatched to an automatic fire alarm on
Sconneltown Road in East Bradford Township.
Engine 51-1 was enroute within 2 minutes with 5
firefighters. Moments later, Engine 51-1
arrived on scene with nothing showing from the
exterior. Upon further investigation the house
was found to be locked up tight with a smoke
detector sounding. Upon a secondary walk around
the building, Firefighter Kramer discovered fire in the
basement.

Tuesday, November 14: West Chester Fire
Department Banquet Held
| On Saturday, November
12, 2005 The West Chester Fire
Department held it's annual Department
Banquet at the Italian Social Club in
West Chester. Members from the
First West Chester Fire Company (Station
51), Goodwill Fire Company (Station 52),
and Fame Fire Company (Station 53) came
together for a fun night of dinner and
dancing. The Department
Firefighter of the Year was awarded to
each company. Firefighter Dave
"Mo" Morris was chosen as the First West
Chester's Department Firefighter of the
Year by the Active Firefighters.

organizing a great night. |

Friday October 20th: Fire Prevention at
Hillsdale Elementary

On Friday, October 20,
members of the First West Chester Fire Co,
along with Good Will (Station 52)
Firefighter "Bird" Eddie, traveled to
Hillsdale Elementary School to teach fire
prevention to 1st and 2nd grade students.
The bad weather held off so the students
could go outside to see the ins and outs of
a real fire truck. (Full

Sunday October 8th: Members Cook'n it up at Chili
Cook Off
Members participated in the West Chester Rotary's
annual Chili Cook Off. Cooking started early
Sunday morning, October 8th, with the team serving
over 4,000 people with 20 gallons of "Old Fashioned
Fire House Chili". The event wrapped up around 4:30
pm with everyone smelling like chili and tired.
A good time was had by all.
Friday October 5th: Station 51 Participates in
VRT Drill
On Thursday, October 4th, the members of Station 51
traveled to Longwood Fire Co. (Station 25) to
participate in a VRT drill. 51 and 25
firefighters teamed up to perform extrications on 2
vehicles, utilizing multiple HURST and hand tools.

Tuesday, May 30, 2006: Funeral Arrangements for
Jim Olseski
There will be a viewing on
Wednesday, May 31, from 6 - 9:00 PM at DellaVecchia,
Reilly, Smith & Boyd (410 N Church St), additional
viewing hours will be on Thursday, June 1 from
10:00 to 11:00 following by a service at the
funeral home. Truck cleaning and prep will be held
on Tuesday night, 18:30. at the firehouse. The
scheduled burn drill for Wednesday, May 31, is
cancelled so the company can attend the viewing
together. Any questions contact Asst. 51.
Saturday, May 27, 2006: Longtime Member Passes
It is with deep regret that the First West Chester
Fire Co. announces the passing of longtime member
Jim Olseski. Jim passed away in his sleep in
the early morning hours of Saturday, May 27.
All members are invited to help celebrate Jim's life
with his family and friends. Information
regarding the viewing and funeral will be released
as soon as possible. Any questions contact
Asst. 51.
Friday, April 21, 2006: Garage Saved After Early
Morning Trash Fire
Shortly before 4:00AM on Wednesday April 19,
2006 The First West Chester Fire Company was
alerted
to a trash fire in the alley to the rear of 237 West
Barnard Street. Engine 51-1 made a quick response
with a crew of 4 firefighters.

Friday, April 21, 2006: 51-2 Puts Quick Knock
Down on Dryer Fire
On Tuesday, April 19, 2006 The First
West Chester Fire Company along with The Fame Fire
Company and Good Fellowship Ambulance were alerted
for a dryer fire in the 500 block of South Church
Street, West Chester Borough. Initial reports were of
a dryer on fire with fire extending to the
structure. Moments later, the fire alarm activation
was received and called in by the monitoring

Tuesday, March 28, 2006: Local Family Saved by CO
Detector
At 20:04 hours, on March 28, 2006, Station 51 was
dispatched to a CO detector activation at 441 Dean
Street. Engine 51-2 went enroute at 20:07 with
a crew of 7. Chester County Fire Radio advised
Engine 51-2 that the caller was reporting 2 carbon
monoxide detectors going off in her home and that
they were evacuating the residence.

Saturday, March 25, 2006: Five Companies
participate in Burn Drill
The First West Chester Fire Company held a Burn
Drill on Saturday, March 25, 2006 with the Goodwill,
Fame, Norco, and Goshen Fire Companies. WCFD
Engines 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 attended along with Ladder
56 and Engine 56-2 and Engine 64-1. The drill
included evolutions on roof work, fire attack and
search and rescue. The drill ended with a
quick evolution of Ladder 56's new foam system and
Pizza at Fame Fire Company following.

Monday, March 20, 2006: WCFD Battles Second Fire
in a Week
At 3:51 hours, March 19, 2006, Stations 51, 53, and
55 Ambulance were dispatched to 817 Sharon Circle in
Westtown Township for a reported house fire.
Asst. 51 (Ronayne) responded and was advised by the
Chester County Fire Board that a gas stove had
caught fire and that fire had extended into the
wall. Engines 51-2 and 53 went responding at
3:59. Asst. 51 arrived on scene at 4:01 with
smoke showing.

Tuesday, February 28, 2006: Busy Weekend for
Wessie Activities
On Early Saturday Morning, February 25, 2006 The
Members of the First West Chester Fire Company and
Goodwill Fire Company held a burn drill to go over
Riding positions and the Engine Split. Thanks
to Fame Fire Company Lieutenant Jim McCabe for going
over the assignments and Goodwill Fire Company Paul
Haring for putting this great drill together.

After a morning Drill on Saturday, members and their
guests got up early on Sunday Morning to Support our
neighbor, Goshen Fire Company at their monthly
breakfast event. Good job to the volunteer
members of the Goshen Fire Company for hosting a

Monday, February 27, 2006: Rapid Intervention
Team (RIT) Assignment in East Bradford Twp
On Wednesday February 15, the First West Chester
Fire Company (51) was dispatched to assist the West
Bradford Fire Company (39) on a working house fire.
The fire was located at 1110 Harmony Hill Road in
East Bradford Township. While the majority of East
Bradford Township is served by the First West
Chester Fire Company, this fire was located in the
section of the township served by the West Bradford
Fire Company.

Tuesday, February 21, 2006: Stations 25, 36, and
51 Battle Early Morning Barn Fire
At 02:45 hours on February 8th, 2006,
Stations 25, 36, 51, and 55 were dispatched to a
barn fire at 1 Red Bridge Lane in Pocopson
Township. The initial information from the caller
reported heavy fire was engulfing the whole
structure. There were reported horses in the barn
and multiple explosions were also heard by the

Friday, February 10, 2006: Station 51 Battles
Early Evening Construction Fire
At 16:42 hours, Station 51 was dispatched for a
reported trash fire at 405 Sunset Hollow Road in
West Goshen Township. Engines 51-2 and 51-1
responded at 16:50 and were advised by Chester
County Fire Radio that a neighbor reported a 10 by
20 section of construction materials on fire.
Captain 51 (Pelna) requested Tanker 53 due to a lack
of hydrants in the area. Both Engines arrived on
scene at 17:00 confirming the report. The fire was
found to be in the back of the property and was
unable to be accessed by either engine due to a
bridge that was not rated to hold the weight of the
trucks.

Friday, January 27, 2006: Stations 51 and 53
Respond to Accident with Entrapment
At 18:11 hours, Stations 51, 53, 55 Ambulance, and
Medic 91, were dispatched to Birmingham Road and
Rout 926 for an auto accident with a vehicle
overturned. Asst. 53 (McDonald) responded and
Chester County Fire Radio advised that there were
reported victims trapped in the vehicle and upgraded
the assignment. Medic 91 requested a
helicopter for a possible fly. Engine 51-1 and
Rescue 53 responded at 18:17 and were instructed to
proceed into the scene for extrication. Engine
51-2 responded at 18:20 for the helicopter landing.
Asst. 53 arrived on scene, along with Engine 51-1
and Rescue 53, at 18:22 confirming one vehicle on
its roof with two patients entrapped. (Continue
